Our Leaders
Capital City Chorus is very fortunate to have co-directors
of such extraordinary ability and talent, not to mention great energy,
inspiration and commitment to all women of SAI. They have contributed
greatly to the enrichment of our musical experience. We are indeed
blessed and grateful to share in their circle.
Bev Miller (right)
Bev became the director of Capital City Chorus in 1987, and achieved
the status of Master Director in 1999 by virtue of the score that
the chorus received in that year's Sweet Adelines International
Regional competition.
Back in 1968 when Bev joined a Sweet Adelines chapter
in New York state, she could not have known where this organization
would lead her. Soon after, she moved back to her home state of
Indiana and joined the local chapter in Lafayette. She later became
the director of Star City Chorus there, before joining CCC.
From 1987 to 1989 Bev served as International President
of the Sweet Adelines International organization. Sheis past President of the Board
of Trustees of the Young Singers Foundation (the official charity of SAI), and is currently a grants reviewer for YSF. She is a certified member of the International Faculty of SAI and a mbmer of the Director Education Coordinators, the committee that oversees the educatio of chorus and musical leaders.
These positions have offered extensive travel for Bev within the
United States, as well as Europe, New Zealand, and Australia, where
she has shared her administrative and musical skills. During
the years she has served her local chapter, as well as Region #4
(a five-state area), with her many skills. She has also used her
strong baritone voice in several quartets.
Bev continues to livein Lafayette, where she is a guidance
counselor in a local middle school. Her daughter, who was raised
on barbershop style music, is also a member of CCC
and is its choreographer. We predict that granddaughter Madison
will someday become a Sweet Adeline, too.
Molly Huffman (left)
Molly directed Sweet Adelines choruses in Muncie and Evansville
before coming to CCC in 1990. She achieved Master
Director status with Capital City in the 1999 Regional competition.
A Sweet Adelines International member since 1976,
Molly has served her local chapter and Region #4 on the Regional
Education Faculty since 1985, served on the Regional Board of Directors
for five years, and for seven years served as Regional Director
of Musical Activities. She has also been a member of numerous quartets.
Singing lead, she has competed at both the regional and international
levels, placing in the top 10 internationally twice.
Molly was recognized as "Coach of the Year"
in 2003 by Region #4 for her work with many quartets and choruses
in continuing their music education. She is currently the Regional
Liaison for YSF, as well as YSF Liaison Coordinator, and is a tireless advocate for the scholarships and grants this
organization provides. Molly is also an International Faculty member.
Her positive style and sense of humor are popular not only with CCC members, but also with her students at Monroe Central High School, where she teaches Spanish. Molly has been named "Teacher of the Year" several times during her tenure at Monroe Central.
Together, these Co-Directors have become well known
throughout the Sweet Adelines organization as a strong team. Their
extraordinary abilities and talents are apparent. Plus, their energy,
inspiration and commitment have been instrumental in Capital City
Chorus becoming a "fabulous performing chorus!"
